There was a sign displayed in a shop when I was a kid ‘Please don’t ask for credit,as a refusal may offend’.
This is still very much the case here.Whilst I dont give credit, neither do i do ‘favours’ for guests unless it suits me.We try to be helpful, and go the extra distance to ensure customers have a good time, usually in proportion to the final bill, or if we have found them good company and likeable.Good guests[in reality customers, but we will continue with the charade for now] generally dont expect any more from us than their room rate will buy.i.e.they arrive at areasonable time, not before 2pm in our case, and not after 6pm unless by prevous arrangement. To arrive at 11 am and expect to use the room booked is an unrealistic expectation. So is announcing that you wish to use the room until past 11 am on day of departure, because you have to change for a wedding/funeral/gotahangovercantgetoutofbed etc.Why should I pay my hard working and expensive staff to hang around waiting for you to leave?Offer to pay for a late check out, or better still, stay an extra night and enjoy it more.I cant let you check out late if the room is booked out another night to someone else, neither do I want you changing in my bedroom. That is MINE and PRIVATE.
Another wheeze we object to is the guest who invites friends back. The people booked into the room are the only ones who should use the shower, tea and cofee etc,and indeed are the only ones welcome over the doorstep[and the only ones covered by my insurance].Don’t assume that my warm heart and good nature extends to the other 200 wedding guests camping on Gower.I rather object to supplying hot water [or indeed, cold,as it has to be paid for on a meter] to folk too mean to pay properly for it.If you do bring friends back[nice and polite to ask first]bring your own tea bags and keep them under close supervision.
99.9999% of people are considerate and polite. The other minority are the ones who spoil it for eveyone, including me.I love this business, but I am not a nurse/laundrymaid/chauffer/agony aunt to anyone who is not paying me!!!!!!!!
The financial climate at the moment has unleashed a rather unpleasant type of enquiry from some potential customers. I blame a certain television commercial-byline YOU’RE AVIN A LARF- for this self defeating type of bargaining.
Firstly, any bargains are struck to mutual advantage. If you want to secure a room at a lower price,it has to have something in it fo ME.e.g.Stay longer, stay other times than peak periods, forgo breakfast, come on a Sunday night.
Second, the best prices are offered by us over the telephone.
Third,be nice to me.Demanding I give you my profit margin and telling me you are unemplyed/disabled/pensioner/an
M.P. etc and therefore poor, does not cut the mustard. My Bank Manager refuses my pitiful begging,I do the same with you.
There has been a lot of agitation caused by the refusal of a B+B owner to allow Gay guests in their home.Whilst my customers private lives are none of my business,I do appreciate dicretion. There are many types of offensive behaviour that we do not welcome, mostly illegal, some anti-social ,such as noisy drunks, and[ naturally] poor old smokers, arrogant loudmouths and men in wife beater vests with beaten wife. All of these can be Gay,hetero,or lovers of sheep. So if I refuse you a bed, before you accuse me of racism, sexism, gayism, check for other shorcomings first.

Hi everyone.
This years overnight Grading visit went well.We have easily retained our 4 Stars from Visit Wales.
It is allways a bit of a nailbiter, but the inspector was very kind, and she did praise the beds, and the breakfast. That is what we do here, all the bits in between are less important to us.We have no desire to move it on up to 5 Stars,or slip down to 1 star either!
We are looking forward to a good summer season,it cant come fast enough now.The temperature has finally started to creep up,even though it has bought a smattering of rain with it, it is nice not to have to wear the skiing gear any longer. So fingers crossed, we are due a hot one!
